    HAVASUPAI (July 29 – Aug 1)

I went to Havasupai! We went!! Ben and I and 3 of my brothers ( Michael, Brady, and Sean) and Ben’s sister(Michelle) and Udine and LaNell and 2 of her brothers (Aaron and Anthony). There were 10 of us in our group and we had a blast. Back up a couple of months to when mine and Ben’s trip to Brazil got cancelled and LaNell  got a new church calling instead of young womens and had 10 tickets to hike Havasupai Falls… I told LaNell that we needed to use those tickets and the wheels started turning and IT HAPPENED! It was a super fun trip. It was a long hike. The Falls were awesome. It was beautiful and fun.

    TUESDAY

We traveled on Tuesday. A 10.5 hour drive through Vegas and back around to the middle of no where Indian Reservation land just passed Kingman, AZ. We crammed 5 of us into each car – Ben and I with Mich and Udine and Michael. We stopped in St. George for burgers and Custard. We stopped again in Kingman but no one was hungry so we kept going. We came to Havasu Lodge and looked for somewhere to eat before going to the hill top. The small store was closed and the only thing there was the lodge with a diner and small souvenir shop. Not even a gas station… We killed some time there and then filled our water bottles and said good bye to civilization. We took a winding road through the bulls and deer and squirrels and made it to the Hill Top parking lot about an hour later. We found the last 2 parking spots and pulled out our sleeping bags and pads and slept in the parking lot from 11 or 12 until 4:45am.

    WEDNESDAY

I woke everyone up at 4:45am and we prepped for the 10 mile hike. Ben and I and Michelle and Udine had scheduled to have a ‘pack animal’ carry our stuff down to the campground so we dropped our bags off at 5am and left them – – it was pretty unofficial and I was a little worried if we would actually see our bags again but… at that point we were all in. We started hiking around 5:30am. The first part is a lot of switchbacks and very Down Hill. After that you just follow the river bed down to the Indian Village. We got to the village and rested for a bit. I guess the people carrying 50lbs on their backs were a little tired! We checked in at the office and paid and got our permits and then hiked the last 2 miles down into the camp ground and water falls. The water was super pretty and we started to see some falls on the hike. We got to Havasu Falls and the campground around 11am and scoped out the area to find the best camping spot. We ended up right by Fern Spring which is the only water source for the camp. We were up against the cliff which was on high ground so we felt safe in case of a flash flood and the wall provided shade throughout the afternoon.

We took a short nap and rested our feet and then went to see if the horses had brought our stuff in yet – they hadn’t so we were without our water shoes and went to check out Havasu Falls. It was beautiful and the water was so refreshing BUT it was not easy on the feet! Michelle was making me laugh cause she didn’t want to hurt her SENSITIVE feet so the water was just taking her down stream at times. We explored as long as we could with our bare feet and by the end Michelle almost got swept over a 6 foot fall – luckily she had a death grip on the rock and Sean and Michael? pulled her out. We went back to camp to wait for our water shoes 🙂

Our stuff came at 6:00ish – (not between 1 and 3 as advertized) So we made our way down to Mooney Falls. LaNell told us that it was just a short walk and then down a little ladder… well if you ever make it to Mooney Falls you will laugh at that description, like we did. It was quite the hike down into the water fall but it was amazing.

    THURSDAY

On Thursday we slept in, (as much as you can up camping). We ate a little breakfast. Put our swim suits on. Packed a day pack and headed out past Mooney Falls in search of Beaver Falls. It was a 2 mile hike along the river. For a first section of the hike I joined Brady, Sean, Aaron, and Anthony in the water. We hiked down stream and jumped off of anything we could. It was fun to explore and see what was next. BUT Michael, LaNell and Ben said that it was taking us 4-5 times as long as for them to hike it so we got out of the water and made our way to Beaver Falls. At Beaver Falls there was an upper and lower falls that were pretty fun to jump off of – probably only 10-20 ft depending where you jumped.

    100_0113 100_0114 100_0116 100_0120 100_0121 100_0127 100_0129 100_0131 100_0148

It was just over an hour to hike back from Beaver – that’s if you just hike and don’t play along the way. We did stop and cool off in Mooney Falls on the way there and back. There’s a small 6 ft fall near the main fall and it was great for jumping in. We made it back to camp for late lunch and afternoon naps and a little rain. We headed out one more time to Havasu Fall. We wanted to go up to the Upper Falls above camp but we ran out of time. We swam and played at Havasu and enjoyed the BLUE water. It was not warm water but it wasn’t cold either. It was really just right and refreshing for 90-100 degree days.

    100_0149 100_0157 100_0159 100_0162 100_0163 100_0174

We headed back to camp and ate dinner and half of our group packed up to hike out that night. Brady had to be home Friday evening so He and Sean and Michael and the Brown brothers hiked out around 8pm – got to the top around 1am and drove all night to get home. LaNell stayed with us and Michelle and Udine. We relaxed in camp and went to bed early so that we could hike out early in the morning.

    IMG_20140730_170215

    FRIDAY

We got up and out of camp… I think at 6am. We dropped our bags off for the pack mule – where they happened to tell us that they had us on the list for yesterday and not today! So we were slightly panicked but… they said they would take care of it and we just kept hoping to see the horses pass us on the trail. We saw them pass us in the golf cart to town and then we saw some little kids lugging them up the road to their house in the village… again, we crossed our fingers and hoped we’d receive our luggage at the top, and in a timely manner.

     100_0176 100_0177 100_0181 100_0182 100_0183 100_0184

The hike back was pretty good. Michelle and Udine got an early start and so Ben and I just tried to keep up with LONG LEGGED LaNEll the whole way back. She only has one speed and it is fast. But we made it all the way back in just under 4 hours! We made it before the lady waiting at the helicopter pad when we passed through the village! It just started to get hot as we made it to the top of the hill and back to our cars. We paid the 2$ for a cold soda and relaxed for a few minutes. And then the horses came! With all of our bags! I was thrilled that they were there shortly after us so we could start the 10 hour car ride back home.

    a few last pictures:

    100_0084

they had picnic tables everywhere. in really random spots. how did they get them there and why?

    100_0112

we really wanted to play a game of ROOK at this table – it was perfectly placed in the water just at the right height so that the top of the table was dry but everything else was submerged… if we had a few more days in the canyon it would have happened.

    100_0079

    It was REALLY BEAUTIFUL.

    100_0048

I liked to see all of the different rock formations and see where water once flowed and try to picture what it might have looked like years ago or at least before the last flood.

That is the official HAVASUPAI report – BUT don’t worry – this was only the pictures from my old water camera – I have intentions of getting everyone else’s pictures and posting again 🙂

Salt Lake City Temple Square (July 28th)

We went to Temple Square! It’s only an hour up the road but we don’t go very often and the few times we have gone have been at Christmas time in the cold winter and the visitors center is too crowded on those nights. So I decided at the beginning of the summer that we needed to go. I wanted to let my kids explore the visitors center and see the temple and the reflection pool and…

    DSC01226 DSC01230

My mom came to town and we had a free day that needed to end at the airport at 4:30 – PERFECT. So we toured Temple Square. I remember loving the Christus Statue when I was young and the kids seemed to love it  to. The girls think the temple looks like a princess castle so they LOVED it. The water features are neat and the boys were loving the waterfall coming down the front of the Conference Center. We spent just over two hours. We had a few Raymond meltdowns,  and stopped for a snack. We did a quick roof tour of the conference center and after a delayed flight and quick trip to McDonald’s we picked Michael up at the airport and came home in a down pour.

Carter got to spend the week with us while his family all went to different camps. He lives in CA so it was fun to get some time with just him. He and Benji and Packer played LOTS of Skylanders and King of Tokyo. They loved the pool and just hanging out. Carter wanted to treat everyone to Kong Cones so we hit Maceys twice.

We went to the PG pool twice. Packer LOVED the slide and Benji realized that he could do the diving board! Carter was a good influence to help them push themselves. We went again on Friday with Camden and they loved it. Cali was swimming pretty good without her life jacket and Ben took all of the kids on the slide so it was a success.

I guess Carter and Cam were camera Shy at the pool. But on Thursday we went down to the BYU Bean Museum and Dinosaur Museum. We checked out all the animals and then we got to go pick Cam up from Basketball Camp. Carter was not camera shy – he was the photo bomber 🙂

    IMG_20140703_160024 IMG_20140703_160656 IMG_20140703_162727 IMG_20140703_164358 IMG_20140703_164741 IMG_20140703_164757

We picked Cam up from camp and headed home. That night there were lots of neighbors doing fireworks so we went out and laid on the grass and played with glow sticks until super late. On Friday we hung out at the house and went to the pool and got Kong Cones and had a Barbeque and watched fireworks at the school. Then I woke the boys up at 4am and we drove down to Provo to pick up the EFY boys and I dropped them off at the airport. It was nice to see my nephews and be able to help them out. Living in Utah brings these opportunities and I love it.

June 29th was a party day at our house. It was Benji’s official birthday! But first I got up at 1am to welcome Braden, Bryce, Camden, Carter and their friend Brady who flew in from Hollister. They all came out to go to  EFY and Basketball camp while their parents and sister went to Girls Camp. First thing Sunday morning-  Benji opened presents!

We all went to church and then family started coming over to hang out! Sean and Anthony came. Then Ryan decided to come at the last minute and surprise us all! Joel and Megan came and Brady and Monique. Then kevin and Liz stopped  in for the night on their drive home from Liz’z family reunion! 20 kids and 11 adults!! Another Stay-cation!

And we ended with a big cousin sleepover! I love when family comes over. I love that even though I didn’t settle in CA I still have lots of opportunities to see my family.

Grandpa J is 91 and Other stuff

We went and wished my Grandpa a happy Birthday last week. We brought a picnic lunch and hung out for an hour or so. It’s nice to live by grandparents. It’s a treat to be able to see them whenever I put forth the effort.

    DSC01036 DSC01037 DSC01041 DSC01043

A few facts about Arden Johnson that I copied from my cousin Sasha: Happy 91st Birthday to one of my favorite people. He’s a WWII vet. He served on the USS Missouri, he watched the peace treaty signed with japan from 20 feet away. He is a gentle giant.

    10452440_10152575043712240_252499270731372840_n

AND IN OTHER NEWS: Packer earned a minion cookie for being the super helper in primary:

    DSC01047 DSC01051

and we helped pick cherries at Grandma and Grandpa’s house and then Ben and I pitted and froze 15 pounds of them. I don’t even like them but the kids do and Ben loves them so we’ll see if we can make some good pies and smoothies:

    162June20142

The other day Raymond had gone out to the swing set by himself and the next time I looked out his cousins Mia and Luca were just playing with him so nicely. They pushed him on the swing and laughed with him and dug in the sand and it just melted my heart to see them interact with their much younger cousin that way. Cousins Next Door is as awesome as we hoped it would be!

    DSC01044

My Aunt Carol called me out of the blue this week and offered to take the kids to the park to play with River! They had a great time at discovery park even though Ray got motion sick on the swings and barfed all over himself. I told my aunt I never push for more than 15 minutes cause I get tired, so I make them be done. She was being super Aunt and spoiling Ray and Rosie at the park. River stayed and played a little after the park – He’s a good kid.

    IMG_20140623_132019

And I love seeing this little nugget crawl across my floors. She is so little and cute. She is getting fast and adventurous. Those little legs are getting strong.

    IMG_20140623_151638

And I’ll end with a story about answered prayers. We had a super fun weekend – wave runners and parade and sleep over and church and world cup and lots of little things in between. On Monday I Washed and Dried 4 loads of Laundry and folded 8 loads. I didn’t get much else done and I was getting frustrated with my messy house and tired kids. Today, Tuesday, we got quite a few chores done, even the basement. But the house was just messy especially the main level and I wasn’t getting it done. Plus I didn’t have all day to clean cause I had a few other things I was working on and trying to get done so… I was frustrated. I finally took a bath, snuck a piece of chocolate and asked Heavenly Father for help. Then when I was going out to clean up the wave runner, (my way of avoiding/putting off the gross floors and kitchen) my brother Brady and his girlfriend showed up. We hung out, played with the dogs, finished the wave runner and next thing I knew they were totally cleaning my house. They swept and mopped everything! That’s a big job in this house. My house is back under control. My prayer was answered. I am excited to start tomorrow in a much better emotional state of mind. Thank you Brady and Monique.

    Father’s Day

We had a good Fathers Day this year… Ben is such a good dad. He is so much fun. He works hard to support us. He puts all of us first. Ben got lots of love from his kids. We had dinner and then headed to His Dad’s house for Dessert. We had Sundaes and chatted and enjoyed being with family. Ben’s dad is great. He is also a very hard worker with a strong testimony. Ben inherited and learned a lot of good qualities from his Father.

    162June2014

I didn’t get to see my dad but we chatted on the phone a little. I was looking through our family messaging and there were some good pictures of my Dad this week. I thought they described him well. Fixing cars, Baseball game, Toughing it out, Good Friends, Family, Church Service. My dad has always worked hard and provided for his family. He always serves 100% and willingly. My dad can fix most things. My dad supports his kid. My dad enjoys travelling and adventure. I love him.

    Weekend Warriors

Really our weekend wasn’t that crazy to be called weekend Warriors but I have been so tired since the weekend that I’m using it. Every time I sit down to blog I fall asleep within minutes. My brain is just fried and my body exhausted. I had 2 extra kids all week and then I hurried around Friday after the pool so that I could go to Katie J’s wedding. All of the Jagoda’s were there and I got to spend most of the evening chatting with Jennie and LaNell so it was fun.

    IMG_20140615_223142 IMG_20140615_223805

After the reception Ben and Ryan and Brady and Sean and Eddy were ready for some games. We played 7 Wonders with both expansion sets. That’s still a good game.

Saturday was busy! Ryan and I got up and got the kids ready and went to 7 Peaks right when it opened! It was a chilly morning but the water was warm and there were NO lines! Ryan and I got to Ride the Diaper a few times and the toilet Bowl. It was fun being with my brother – it felt like I was a kid again – just for those few minutes. Benji rode the toilet bowl with me and I convinced Benji, Cali and Rose to go on one body slide with me. We spent most of our time in the wave pool and lazy river. It was cold but worth it. We left a little after 12:00 when all the people started coming.

    IMG_20140615_223328

It was nice of Ben to stay home with Ray and Millie and get the yard work and shopping done!

    IMG_20140615_223556

Then Sean and Eddy and C-way came over. Ryan and Ben made dinner. Sean and the guys helped me get the waverunners dropped off at the shop. We ate. We watched the Italy/England game. LaNell came over and Pete’s family was next door at Falabella’s so we all mixed and mingled. Joel and Megan came. Cali broke her tooth out! and I hurried and took Ryan and girls to the Trax station at 7:50pm. Sean left. Joel and Megan and Brady hung out a little longer. I eventually crashed and luckily had mostly everything ready for Father’s Day.

    Marlee and Brinlee

Last week we invited my nieces Marlee (8) and Brinlee (6) to come stay with us while their mom and sisters went to girls camp. We had a fun week. My kids love having cousins around. We played at home a lot but we did few fun things as well. They came Monday night and on Tuesday we went to the Splash Pad.

    IMG_20140610_131507 IMG_20140610_131533 IMG_20140610_132106 IMG_20140610_132528 IMG_20140610_132710 IMG_20140610_141004 IMG_20140610_142929 IMG_20140610_142944

On Wednesday we went to the Mall for Millie’s pictures and looked around and played while we were there. We got Frosty’s on the way home and played until my soccer game that night.

    IMG_20140611_121433 IMG_20140611_134216 IMG_20140611_141839 IMG_20140611_221231

On Thursday we stayed home all day and watched the first game of  the world cup. The kids played at the play ground and played soccer and just played hard.

    DSC00992 DSC00993 DSC00994 IMG_20140610_105005 IMG_20140610_174201

And on Friday we went to the swimming pool in the afternoon and then we kicked off a busy weekend. I went to a wedding reception and Ryan and the older girls came to spend the night and we played games until 1 or 2 am. But we had a lot of fun with Brinlee and Marlee. Brinlee wouldn’t talk much to me but she got along great with the girls. Marlee and Benji and Packer all played well and got along great. We enjoyed watching them.

these boys are great friends. They are starting to tease more and more. I’m nervous but excited to watch them grow up.

     DSC00719

And yes that is Millie sitting in a pile of toys. She loves to sit. She will play and play as long as she has lots of choices in front of her and they need to be “mouth” proof because everything has to be tasted.

    IMG_20140430_100715

I loved Ray trying to push the buttons on our TV! So cute. I’m sure he’ll have a 48 inch touch screen someday but for now we can still laugh and try not to be too worried that our 2 year old is very capable with tablet electronics.

    IMG_20140501_135128

Rose is obsessed with the melty beads – She will sit and create for hours.

it was almost summer and now it’s cold again… Ray is getting so big. We are thinking that Rose will be the runt of this family. I’m the shortest in my fam as well so I think she’ll be ok 🙂

    IMG_20140504_191618

Millie looked so cute on Sunday and she was good for all 3 hours of church. By the time I went to take a picture she was super tired and it was bad lighting. o’well.

My youngest sister Kelsey is doing wonderful missionary work in Taiwan. Her emails every week are great. She really loves the gospel and the people that she gets to share it with.

Seeing pictures like this make it a little easier to have her gone. Cali and Rose always tell me how much they miss having Kelsey come over 🙂 I miss her too.
