Cali Plays Soccer

Soccer Saturdays are in full swing. This last Saturday Packer and Cali played at the same time. Ben coaches Packer so he goes to that and I get to take Cali. This Saturday Grandpa Nettesheim came to watch Cali and Mia and he got some good pictures. He even captured her right as she was winding up to kick a goal!

It’s fun watching the games even with 3 kids on my lap, climbing and whining 🙂

And I love that Cali and Mia are on the same team:

We had a 2 hour winter snow storm on Tuesday morning. The snow was flurrying everywhere and the ground was covered and then it was done. We got a little rain that afternoon and my kids were so excited to use their umbrellas. It has been a little too windy to play outside so I’m not liking that. The boys ask me to check the weather every morning so they can decide if they need their coat or sweatshirt or both. It has been unpredictable lately. I’ll be excited when the sunny days are here to stay.

and we got the NEST – it’s the “smart” thermostat. It can sense if you walk by it or not and tries to figure out what temperature you like it and when. It is geeky and can be controlled by your phone!

Saturday

Soccer has started! Ben is coaching the boys teams again. Cali got a goal! They are all getting better… this is the first time the boys didn’t count how many times they touched the ball to motivate them 🙂 We celebrated Cali’s goal with Ice cream. We went to a lunch time Court of Honor for McKay. We did some chores around the house before Benji’s 4pm game. We ran some errands and the rest is a blurr – – I crashed early and next thing I knew the kids were waking me up to see if they could look for their Easter Baskets…

Oh Yeah – And we Dyed our Easter Eggs on Friday night:

Best Buddies

We used to be best buddies – but now we’re not!

Is that song stuck in anyone else’s head?

My kids are best buddies and I LOVE IT.

These boys literally cry at night if they don’t go to bed together at the same time in the same bed. They are buddies. They got a drawing book at the last book fair and Packer wouldn’t let me draw with him. Only Benji. Another day Pack got mad when Benji went to a friend’s house because he felt like he was losing his friend. Another time Packet built a ‘museum’ upstairs and Benji had friends over. I heard Benji tell his friends several times not to mess it up cause Packer had spent like three days making it.

Best buds – Rose yells for Cali every morning and won’t get out of bed until Cali comes and helps her. Cali and Rose always give each other big hugs. They play house and nurture each other. The girls watch Tangled and act it out together. In primary Rose gets scared and Cali comforts her. They really are best buddies.

These two are still young but I’m hoping the gender difference won’t matter too much and they can be buddies.

Sometimes they switch up who their buddy is for the day. These two play really well when they aren’t too tired.

And these boys have been practicing puppet dancing and other crazy moves, be sure to request a show next time you are over at our place.

homework is horrible

This is the first year that homework has been a struggle. Benji hates his Cursive and hates that I make him do the full 20 minutes of reading. He was reading at night but has decided he doesn’t like that as much.
Packer just doesn’t like homework. He is so burnt out by the time he gets home that he truly cannot focus. Problem is he NEEDS to focus. He NEEDS homework. He needs help on his reading and he needs help on spelling. I’ve tried to let him wait until after dinner but it just doesn’t get done if we do. So we will keep plugging away because really homework isn’t horrible. Packer is learning a lot from it. Both boys do better in school when we do better with homework.

and then there is Cali who like to give herself homework. She just started bringing home word group papers from preschool and she asks me to listen to her read almost every day. She is catching on fast. I think she will be reading very soon.

Doesn’t Cali look so old here! 5 years old is big time 🙂 The boys are in the background checking their chores.

Show and Tell

Cali was also Star Student this week. She gets to bring a snack to share and a show and tell. She really wanted to bring baby Millie to show her class so I finally gave in and we did it. SHE LOVED IT.

Ballapalooza has been a hit

sometimes we get to take naps

We play a lot of dress up

and the girls still love Spot It

Painting our nails is also a favorite

and sometimes they just run around half naked!

Cali’s Calendar

Cali has made a calendar at preschool the last 2 Christmas’s. The Calendar’s are adorable, each month made from hand and foot print art work (I’m sure you could pinterest the idea 🙂 ) The cutest part though is how Cali marks off each day on the Calendar. She is trying to understand how it works and the days of the weeks and what months have fun holidays. She has the order of our family birthdays memorized and she looks forward to each event.

Cali is 5

We have a birthday girl! Cali has been so excited for her birthday. She memorized the order of birthdays in our family and has been waiting literally all year for her turn. She is the youngest of all of her friends. I treat her like she is 8 but she is FINALLY 5! She has grown up a lot this year. I can’t remember the last time she threw a major fit. She is helpful and fun. Competitive but girly girl. LOUD. We love CALI.

We had the young women in the ward come and do her birthday party!! They did hair and nails. They played pin the Tiara on the Princess! They played a balloon game and they played make a snow man as fast as you can! We opened presents and ate cupcakes and everyone had a good time. This was our first friends party (thanks to the ward auction) and all of the kids loved it. Everyone that Cali invited was able to come!
