    A week in California!
We left the on a beautiful 80 degree Sunday after church and drove across Nevada and into California. I was very annoyed when it was snowing in Wells and then required chains over Donner Pass – IS THIS NOT MAY?! I was bugged because I had just had our snow tires taken off of the van the week before. We do have all wheel drive on the van and we made our way to the checkpoint and went on through without chains. We LOVE having all wheel drive. It did slow us down a good hour and a half but we got to my parents home in Oroville at Midnight.
On Monday we got to play with my sister-in-law Liz and her kids. I went to Yogurts with my mom for lunch and that night we ALL went over to Chico for a womens over 30 indoor soccer game – It was an AWESOME game with some GREAT players – -, Liz is on a team with our friend Tiffany and they let me play with them :), we tied 7 to 7. And then we went to McDonalds to let the kids run around and eat a late dinner. Benji said it was THE BEST McDonalds EVER – it had a play place AND VIDEO GAMES!! We put kids to bed and played NERTZ with Mom, Dad, Michael, Shannon and Kelsey.

Hide and Go Seek: Maddy, Packer and Lilly

Video Games: Benji and Jaydn they did play other things as well like creating the break dance club, this is just what they happened to be doing when I remembered I didn't have any pictures yet.

On Tuesday I took the kids down to visit my mom at the office and pick out prizes, Benji looks forward to this every visit now. Then we came back home at lunchtime for a get together with some of my bestest friends :), Angelee and Katie and Raeanne and Liz and I grabbed Taco Tuesday for lunch and hung out at my parents house while the kids,13 of them, ran around playing. It was tons of fun to catch up with everyone. That evening we stayed for dinner and brownies with the family and then we left at 8pm and headed for San Francisco. I dropped Ben off at the Hilton for his work conference and then I drove to Walnut Creek to Erica’s house. The kids were exhausted and asleep, we transferred them from the car and crashed for the night.

My Friends! Me, Katie, Angelee, Liz and Raeanne

Our 2 Year Olds! Cali (Dec), Ella (Jan), Charlee (Mar), Lacie (May)

Wednesday the kids woke up to play with their long lost friends 🙂 Erica’s sister Emily came over and Erica was babysitting for a friend so we had a busy morning. Then Erica made me salsa and Guac and I ate chips the rest of the afternoon. My Sister-in-law Mal came over around 3:30 with her 2 kids and we played and ate dinner and got ready to go to the A’s game. We drove down to the game and met up with Ben and my brother Josh at the BART station and then met up with my sister Christy and Rob and three of their boys. So we had a super fun time in the 2$ seats with the sun in our eyes and kids all over our laps. I love that everyone made the effort to come and I got to spend that time with family and friends. Erica came with her 4 kids and no husband – she really is amazing and a little crazy but she pulled it off as well as any of us did. We got home late again – put the kids in bed and crashed.

It was fun to meet up with Ben instead of being apart for the conference

    Mal and her babies

    Erica being super mom.

Thursday we finally got to play Boggle and it was fun even though I lost. The kids just played and played. We went to the park for a little bit and Erica spoiled them with the icecream truck. I went and picked Ben up from the BART station because he was done with his work conference (the reason that we got to take this trip was because he was going to the San Fran conference) and then we ate some yummy Erica food, enchiladas and salad. And put the kids to bed so that they wouldn’t be too grumpy for Friday.

    Rose loved the Jumperoo (?)

and Rose and Gentry were SOO cute together.

    Yummy Over Priced Popscicles 🙂

Packer picked the coolest ice cream!

Friday was so much fun. We took the kids to Six Flags Animal Kingdom in Vallejo and it was just perfect for our kids. They had tons of kid rides that were just right. And we got to see Shouka’s whale show, the dolphin show and Elephant show. Plus they have Giraffes and Tigers, sharks and a walrus… the kids LOVED the animals and LOVED the rides. They seemed to be the perfect age and just loved every minute that we were there. Benji said it was ” The Best Day Ever”. That made it so worth it. It was extra fun because we had the Hancock’s with us and a bunch of my family was able to come. Kevin and Liz brought their 4 kids and my parents, Michael, Shannon and Kelsey all came!! It was FUN. That night Than was finally home so we ate pizza and let the kids watch a movie until late and just hung out.

Cali and Claira - ready for Six Flags

Benji and Ben - 1st roller coaster

drink break cause we're too little for this ride.

On Saturday we drove home – NOT SO FUN, but a necessary part of travel and we made it in a timely manner so I will not complain. Today was a good Sunday. It is good to be home. Rose has a little cold and is fussy. Cali loved being back in the new playroom. Packer and Benji were excited to get the computer set up downstairs FINALLY. We had Joel and Brady and T-Money over for dinner and dominion. Good Times. I must still be on California time cause it is way too late to be blogging but here I am … and IT IS WAY TO LATE… perhaps this will be continued tomorrow. Good Night.

Luckily we had just gotten home from an awesome vacation and now we are headed out to California for another vacation, Somehow that makes it not as bad. So as always – We survived.

I love the new carpet! I love having my house back. Check it out…

    come downstairs...

we went dark and short to try and make it last longer

it's hard to really appreciate it through these pictures, you'll have to come check it out

Ben brought me flowers yesterday! Just because. I like just because flowers. I’m thinking he was inspired – yesterday was just one of those days. I feel like I was going going going all day and then it was bedtime and it looked like I hadn’t gotten anything done. I think the ultimate source of the lameness around here is living in half a house. I will be so happy when my bedroom can just be my bedroom again and not double as the family room and the living room is doubling as the toy/guest/ everything else room and all of the kids room are storing computers and blankets and whatever else usually has a home downstairs. I’m hoping next week will bring us new carpet and then all will be right in this Nettesheim home 🙂

    Happy EASTER!

    Our Family

I was nervous about getting to church on time on Easter morning but we made it! and we even had time to take a picture before we left!! I know we’re amazing 🙂

    matching girls

    cutest smiles ever!

Brewer even got in this one.

    Cali's photography skills - I liked it.

I’m grateful for Easter and how it helps me focus on my Savior. I know that he suffered death but he did rise on the third day giving us all the gift of resurrection. Our kids are still young but I wish we would have spent more time on the meaning of it all and the real celebration. Next year we will do better.

our small house just got smaller this week

So – – we got home from our wonderful vacation and had a FLOODED BASEMENT. The city turned on the secondary water while we were gone and we thought that we had it turned off but we did not.

    🙁

It was really flooded. The entire basement was soaked at ground level. We had to throw out all of our carpet and now we’ve been home for 3 days and we are still trying to get the walls dried out. Monday and Tuesday were spent calling insurance and water damage company and waiting for return calls and people to come over and inspections and… not how I wanted to spend my week.

annoyances: the constant hum of fans. They have the basement heated up to 95 degrees so it feels like I’m still in Costa Rica. Trying to live in half of our house and that half is very cluttered with things that belong in the other half of the house. Huge machinery is plugged in to all of my outlets so I am without a laundry room and a stove/oven.

Anyway I just feel like I’m in over my head. We have been working on the toy room and last week we painted our downstairs family room so we have been busy doing those projects at night and neglecting some of the usual. Then we went on vacation and brought home luggage from us and kids which always takes a day or two to recover from. Now throw a flooded basement on top of that and you have a not happy Jana and Ben. We had to get the downstairs stuff off of the floor so we have clutter everywhere and can’t use the downstairs at all. Now we have a St. George Spring Break trip planned for this weekend… hoping our house is dry enough to still go. And my family is then coming to town the day we get back from St. George – our hopes of a finished play room and new carpet are simply a past dream – instead we will be carpetless, with no TV and we just sold our guest bed – sorry family we’ll have to make do.

we had to pull out all of the carpet and get some air blowing

we had lots of fans blowing but when a friend came by and showed us the moisture levels a foot or two up the wall we decided we'd better call in the professionals

    bring in the fancy fans

    fancy heat and wind tunnels

The Clutter! I did some major cleaning today (thanks Amanda for taking my kids) so things are looking better.

cords running to all the different circuits throughout the house

this little baby had to feed herself today so that I could get things done

that’s how many kids were at my house last night when I walked out the door to go to my soccer game – – I did feel a little guilty leaving but I did leave cause my husband can handle 21 kids all by himself – can yours?? 🙂 I remember when Ben used to worry about me leaving him with Benji and then with Benji and Packer but now he doesn’t think twice – he can handle them as well as I can. I love it. Last night was a 5 month old, 15 month old, three 2 yr olds, one 3 yr old, three 4 yr olds, two 5 yr olds, and I lose track from there – the other ten kids are somewhere in the 6 – 11 range. Bottom Line is … my husband rocks!

Today I vacuumed popcorn and organized toys, folded laundry and cleaned bedrooms. Ben worked outside for several hours and the kids were back and forth ‘helping’ both of us with rolly polly catching and kite flying and video gaming in between. Rose was crying in her swing a few different times, her siblings were able to calm her down so I could keep cleaning. One time I caught Cali down reading Rose a story – it was so cute I had to grab the camera – I was to slow though – she had put the book away and started singing to her 🙂

    sisters

    the boys, doing boy chores

The girls are taking late naps. Ben took the boys to McDonald’s. I am watching some March Madness and putting my feet up for the first time today. It feels good.

I do wish these guys were still playing...

    NEW PAJAMAS!!

Packer and Cali convinced me that we NEEDED these pajamas – Yes Packer chose Sponge Bob AGAIN, Cali wanted Dora and Packer decided that Benji would want Toy Story more than Cars. When Benji got home from school Packer told him to go up to his room and look in his Jammie Drawer – – they were all so excited – totally worth the 10$ splurge.

DID you KNOW that MY parents WENT cruising LAST week? They flew to Puerto Rico and then got on the boat and went to a lot of cool islands. They got to go with a BUNCH of their friends and I’m sure they were missing me the whole time but they still had fun 🙂

    HUGE BOAT

My Mom on the beach somewhere in another country - jealous!

    My Dad!

I'm amazed that they got to cruise with so many good friends!

AND did you know that my littlest sister camped out at the Marriott Center for 3 nights so that she could get a good seat for Saturdays BYU basketball game – They got 6th row! We saw her on TV passing  Cosmo up the stands, and they did a fun DANCE and she got to chill with some players after/during the MWC champion celebration…

That's my Kelsey in the Red Sweatshirt

    COLLINSWORTH

    with ABOUO

Fredette and Emery were too busy for a picture

But I just found this link and Kelsey is right there on the loading screen – first picture!

BENJI AFter SCHOOL. This guy is a creature of habit. He always has been and I’m thinking he always will be. If I am going to change anything up on him he has to be warned and talked through it and then he is still nervous until he gets used to the change. A friend has been picking him up for school in the mornings since the beginning of the year – the first few days were really hard to get him in their car and he needed bribing BUT now it is the routine and I LOVE IT….

coming home from school - kindergarten is flying by!!

It’s flying by for me anyway – this guy has grown leaps and bounds in kindergarten. He can READ. He can Write! he can actually draw and color and count by 5, 10, 20 or whatever. He is so big and it is so fun. He and Packer woke up early on Friday and started creating some art work, they continued some of the art they started with their friend Lucie – here is what they came up with. Mostly monsters…

    Benji's work

    Packer's work

Packer has this really weird habit that I have almost blogged about a few times because as much as I don’t like it I kind of want to tell him about it when he is older… so I will hide the details here in this really long post so that only the diligent readers will have the chance of reading the bathroom talk 🙂 So every time Packer goes #2 he says, (and I quote) “Mom can you come wipe my bum. I went poop but some poop is stuck in and you need to come wipe it out. ok mom?” That is word for word and he says it EVERY time and the first part is loud to get my attention and then he just trails off with the rest of the sentence and explanation.

our only Brown Eyed Child! He makes us laugh a lot.

Packer is also just getting over a little issue at primary. He went in and started crying the last 2 weeks and it was all because they switched his class to the other side of the room and he felt like he couldn’t see his big brother anymore and so he has been in tears and all of the wonderful primary peops have been trying to help, so we had a talk and I believe that this week went well, he just needed a little assurance that it is ok to sit on the new side. And on that note CALI is becoming Super Nursery Girl. She lets me drop her off and doesn’t cry! The teachers are even starting to say that she does GOOD in there. They told me on Sunday that she knows how to count from 5-10, I wasn’t sure what they meant because I try to get her to count and she stumbles with 1, 2, 3. So today we were reading a book and counting and I started but she picked up at 5 and took it to 9!

JUST THE GIRLS photo by Packer

Well, we had another FUN FULL weekend! For date night we went to a little Thai restaurant and then picked out paint for the toy room. We had ambitions to get some more work done in there but that didn’t happen. On Saturday morning we got to go to see Caitlin and Lalo get baptized! We spent the whole morning with family, eating and playing and visiting. That afternoon we watched BYU defeat Wyoming. I ran out to get a part for the hot tub and we were wornout from crabby Cali so we put the kids to bed a little before 8, and then just relaxed. Sunday was another early morning for church, a relaxing afternoon and then we invited my siblings over for dinner. Ben made some killer stroganoff and then we lost 3 rounds of Dominion, while discussing futures, dating, family trips, and the BYU craze. Now Monday is half over so I better get going.

i loved this pic - pure PJ happiness
