The Box
This box has been in our living room for over a week and it drives me crazy but the kids have LOVED it.

We just went from Summer to COLD!
My kids like it. They are begging to wear their coats. This is Packer today – he already had his Halloween sweatshirt on but he NEEDED his Jacket too!
We broke out all of our Halloween decor yesterday – the kids get so excited and so does their Dad. They are really excited to do this new Halloween count down and eat candy every morning…
And we were glad to see our buddy “Bob the Bird” again…
and the “Little Man” is back . . .
I don’t know why the kids would be scared of this guy!?
their Dad just leaves him in weird places all over the house and freaks us all out!
The cute part was when Cali got a hold of him . . .
This girl might need a Dolly to play with.
So we are excited for Halloween. Costumes are already purchased. Kids are carrying their pumpkin buckets around. I’m excited to get to wear sweats and sweatshirts and hide my new rolls from my new favorite treat! Why do they have to put 48 in one package! These Costco Brownies are  my new weakness.
And my blow dryer just broke so I am living with WET HAIR and FREEZING! that is the one not fun thing about this weather change so far.
Today I am cleaning the garage. It has accumulated much junk over the summer and Ben hasn’t been able to park in the garage for 2 weeks now so it was time to get it under control. I was putting a few things in the rafters and Packer says, “Be careful Mom. Watch it up there.” What a sweet guy. I think he is enjoying being the big kid while Benji is at school.
For the weekend I got to go to San Diego for Linda’s memorial. It was neat to be there, to remember all she did in this life, to see the family that she raised, taught and loved, To hear the amazing stories of her life and to just be in her home with her things and surrounded by everything Linda. It was a beautiful memorial. I’m grateful I got to be there. She will be missed by many. Another friend of mine lost her Mother In Law this month and my uncle Claire passed away also. Things like this always make you stop and look at life and reevaluate what is most important. It makes you look at your own life and get things back on track.
Yesterday we went to Carls Jr because I had free kids meals for the boys. After playing in the play place Benji came out and told me that the girl in there called him a liar. “Did you lie to her?” I asked. “No. Why did that girl call me a liar? Did she think my name is liar?” Then after some thought he continued with, “That’s not a cute name. Noone’s name is liar. Why did she call me liar?” Â This is my child. He wants to understand everything. Our days are still filled with WHYs.
Now Ben is having Scouts downstairs. He offered prizes to anyone that can beat my Mrs. Pacman score on our computer arcade! I will extend that challenge to any Pacman fans out there!! Packer and I are watching “Little People” for the umpteenth time. Cali has a cold and is maybe going to bed early tonight (fingers crossed). Benji is being one of the big kids with the scouts. And I have basketball tonight, just a pick up game at 9. My knee has been bothering me so I am anxious to run on it tonight.
Oh Yeah – And yesterday was Dentist day for me and the boys. I remember posting and making a big deal out of Benjis first trip to the dentist. 2nd child really does get past by on a few things. Packer was awesome, the dentist really wanted to know how I prepared a 2 year old so well because he held so still and let them do everything, even flouride. I was a proud Mom and Pack was excited for a new Power Ranger toothbrush. I did remember my camera…
We had an awesome Labor Day weekend camping at MacKerricher State Park. I went every year as a kid so it was nostalgic to be there and to share that with Ben and the kids. Most of my siblings and their families were also there – we ordered brown sweatshirts and had a mini reunion. And a number of families that we grew up with also came with their families so it was second generation Fort Bragg trip and it was pretty neat to be there with EVERYONE.
We had a busy weekend. We usually have some time to sit and do nothing and even get a little antsy to leave the house. Not this weekend. I find that as my kids get older and I have more of them, we are seeing less of that free time. But we had fun.
Friday
8am make potatoes for a funeral
9am take Than and Erica to the Airport.
11am – get potatoes cooked and kids picked up and potatoes delivered.
12pm try to wish my brother Kevin a happy birthday, make dinner, talk to Tracie, Get the kids settled over at their cousins
1-5pm I worked in the yard, cleaned the patio, mowed the lawns, and started on my hot tub pad
6pm dinner
7pm softball game! we won!
8:30pm Bens brothers come over to catch the Pre-season Packer game.
Saturday
7am Packer tapping me on my shoulder – maybe he needs his crib back!
10:30 off to Benji’s soccer game. Right when we got there he went to the playground and knocked his tooth almost through his lip. We put ice on it and decided not to have a Dr look at it.
11am Benji’s game. He did better than last week. If he got five kicks he got icecream so… he kicked it 6 times and looked at his dad after every kick to make sure that he was counting.
12pm – off to get icecream! Good Job Benji.
1pm – change diapers and reload diaper bag for Ben’s work party.
2pm – work party in Alpine, jumpy houses, good food, free stuff = FUN.
4pm Ben runs to leadership session of Stake Conference. I try unsuccessfully to get the kids down for naps. LaNell comes over to chill.
5:30 Reload diaper bag – head out for our soccer game. We WON! They had a player that I really don’t like to play against. Last year he gave Ben a shiner. This year he was being his crazy self, took a few of our guys out and then when he just missed the ball and kicked me in the shin under my shin guard I had had enough. From there I had to really good assists and a goal – we won 6-2. Sorry Red Shorts-hopefully the bruise on my shin is smaller than his bruised ego!
7pm Matt and Jamie take the kids and we run to stake Conference.
9pm Get kids and check out the new projector set up. I’m tired. Call and chat with my brother Michael  and tell him happy birthday.
Sunday
7am another tap on the shoulder from Packer, Benji then tells me when it says 8 on the clock and Cali chimed in so I finally get up.
10am Stake Conference. Good Talks. Maybe I need to try that indexng thing rather than reading all ya’lls blogs 🙂 The kids were good so we actually got to listen.
12pm Reload diaper bag and head for Spanish Fork.
1pm – Baby Chloe gets blessed (Ben’s cousins kid). Spend the afternoon with family and good food and fun.
6:00 stop and see my brothers new partment. He’s single, 26. (Let me know if you have any blind date options for him).
7:00 Johnson family night get together! My moms parents and her siblings and their kids. More food, family and fun. And for the 3rd time in one Day I was asked point blank if I am pregnant. Am I gaining weight people?? I’ve just been to 3 big free for all food functions in a row maybe that’s the problem.
9:00pm Get into comfortable clothes and get the kids in bed cause the weekend is over!
Weekend OVER – Now it is time for Ben to go back to work and us to get ready for our big camping trip this week. My mom always tried to get the house in order before we left on a trip and I thought it was weird because we are just going to come home and unload the van and make a big mess again BUT now I understand. So here’s to packing and getting the house in order before we leave.
We were out of milk again today so I snuck some “magic” powdered milk into Packers sippy and I even added the chocolate to disguise it. It didn’t work. Packer took one drink. Said, “This Yucky, Mom” and then continued with “uggh kkk” and abandoned the sippy which is not his style. Please never let us live on powdered milk!
Cali prefers food over nursing (sad). She’s almost 9 months. I just got her up from her nap and tried to nurse her but she saw crackers and didn’t need me. Â It’s time for me to get used to the idea of nursing her less. She’s growing up so fast.
Benji is finally talking about preschool, he’s not in denial anymore. Today he kept asking what kind of school Pacen is in and then what is his school called. Camry was coaxing him along and I think he really is going to like it, after the first couple of times. He starts after Labor Day!
We decided that we are getting rid of our sandbox next week because we can make better use of that area and the kids never play in it anyway… well, wouldn’t you know that Packer has been out in the sandbox everyday this week! And Benji has even joined him a few times. Of course they start using it now.
I read a book this afternoon. I picked it up thinking, “I’m going to read this book responsibly, like a chapter a day when I need a break.” Well, my afternoon is now over and my book is also over. I’ll have to try the responsible reading another time. And I better get off the computer and return to realities before I get too far behind and have another one of THOSE DAYS.
When we played GI Joe I was often the only girl and I had my two GI Joe’s that were mine that were girls. I would play with the other Joes as well but my 2 were Lady Jaye and Jinx. Jinx is the Red Ninja and was always my favorite. In Our United Awesomers club ( you know you remember that Kevin and Than, Dan, Josh, Jared,) in the club my code name was Jyps, obviously taken from Jinx. Shannon was an excellent Jinx for the premiere and I tried to be Lady Jaye. In honor of my childhood the following pictures and reenactment were taken.
Here we thought that we would position the action figures and then position ourselves in the same pose. The figures kept falling over so this is what we got.
Last Night Packer slept in a big boy bed!!
And Cali finally got a crib and said goodbye to the port-a-crib. I don’t have any girlie crib sets so she is bumper pad less for now – we’ll see if she gets any head bruises or if we are good to go as is.
We got to play with Pacen and Camry all day today and on Tuesday. My kids love having them here. They just play from the minute they wake up until Than comes to get them. I’m glad that Erica gets to go and be with her Mom and her family. It’s hard to see the pain that they are all going through and hard feeling like there isn’t much to do to help. Erica and I have been best friends since high school. We have spent a lot of time together. High school, sports, BYU, and now we live a mile apart and our kids are best friends. Her family is about as close as being my own family and vice versa as possible without blood relation or marriage. I know that Linda is strong but I just wish that I could take away all of the pain or a little of it. Anyway, I’m not a good sentimental writer so I’ll stop there. (Erica let your Mom know that we love her.)
Here are Cam and Pacen taking a picture for Mom and Grandma Linda.
and Benji had to take a picture. So here I am with my squinty eyes and my chubby cheek baby.
Cali is getting to be so much fun. She gets super excited and rocks her whole body up and down or back forth. She always does this when I get her up from a nap and often when she’s eating at the table – I worry that she is going to knock her face on the table but she hasn’t yet. She accompanies the rocking with Pterodactyl like squawking that is so fun and cute.
Last night Ben was playing with the boys. Wrestling and playing on the floor and Cali made her way over there and started climbing on Dad too – It was super cute. She really is part of the family now.
Yesterday morning around Cali’s first fussy I’m ready for nap time – she wasn’t fussing so I went to check it out and …
She was downing the hot chips with Packer and Camry!
I’m watching all of the Harry Potter movies again to refresh my memory before I see the new one. I tried watching with Benji but the boy literally asked a question every 10 seconds! It IS EXHAUSTING to watch a movie this way – I was alseep by 10pm!
BUT the early bedtime got me out of bed early and I was able to get up and go running. It was a perfect morning for a run, a slight breeze to keep ya cool the whole time. I loved it, until I walked in the house and started sweating like crazy.
I also thought about weed eating some of our weeds today but I seem to have purchased the worlds worst weed wacker – I can’t make that thing work! Too bad I bought it 3 or 4 years ago so I can’t return it. Â I never have been able to use it. Ben can usually make it work but ME, never! lame
and Packer just chose an orange over an oreo for a lunch treat so maybe there is hope for my kids nutritional habits.
Today was a cleaning Day – Inspired by this very powerful but very ginormous microwave…
After lunch I ended up putting Cali in the sink to play so that I could get more cleaning done. She loves the water. Pretty soon Packer figured out where Cali was and he had to get in too. They were super Cute Playing in there.
I got a lot of cleaning done and am loving the new microwave and my new counter space. After most projects around here we always ask the same question… Why didn’t we do this sooner?
As most of you know Ben works for Mozy so you might think I’m bias, but it really is cool!
I sleep well at night because MOZY backs up all of my pictures and documents. I love knowing that my pictures are safe. Really, not trying to be cheesy – We took 500 pictures just on our last vacation – if I lost them I would be so sad. Not to mention the fact that I never get any of my pictures printed so our photo selection would be very slim and all of my pictures of my cute kids would be lost. Mozy is really cheap and it really does let me rest peacefully not ever worrying about the untimely crashing of any of our 3 computers.
I’m getting a free T-shirt for using MOZY and Blogging about it!
