    Last Day of Soccer

Another season of soccer has come and gone. I love soccer and I really enjoy going to the games. We love having cousins on our teams and it does get more fun as they get older. I had to keep telling myself not to get too into it at Benji’s last game. Yes, we will start again in the Fall. No I am not adding Rose to the mix yet.

    Weekend Wrap Up

Over the weekend we celebrated Ben’s Birthday and Mother’s Day!

    DSC00832

On Friday Ben took the day off and planned his garden and hung out with his Dad. We also opened presents and had birthday cupcakes and played a new game King of Tokyo with the kids. That evening we went out to dinner with Mom and Dad and Pete and Amanda. We went to Pizzeria Seven Twelve. I had never been there and it was pretty tasty. From there Michelle and Udine joined us and we finally watched Captain America: Winter Soldier. That was a really good movie. We came home and called it a night. That was our first time leaving all 6 of the kids with a young babysitter and they were all well behaved and asleep when we got home 🙂

Saturday was another Soccer Day and we had some chores to do around the house.

On Sunday I got to sleep in and chill with Millie in bed and then the kids (and Ben) brought me crepes in bed! and they had made me lots of fun cards and cute hand prints. Then I got a new bike! My little Walmart cruiser wasn’t very good especially when pulling three kids. So Ben upgraded me to a “Specialized” Hybrid and I am excited to try it. Church was really good and then we came home and hosted Mother’s Day Dinner for Ben’s Mom! Ben made Sunday Dinner, roast and Potatoes and the works. The Falabella’s came and we had a yummy time. We ended the night with Ben’s birthday cake.

We got to take Grandma out to dinner on Tuesday night! She is such a great person. She is 90 years old but her memory is amazing and she is full of knowledge and wisdom and memories. She wanted to go to OUTBACK to get the rack of lamb with mint green jelly! I love it. I love that she knew exactly what she was craving and we made it happen. We got Sean to watch all of the kids so it was a quiet adult meal which we don’t get often.

A few words of wisdom from this trip:

She told us about the advice she got from her mom when she was raising her family and complaining about leaving a sink full of dishes every night to run off to baseball games… Her mom said to leave the dishes and enjoy the games. Soon enough you will have time to do as many dishes as you want. She said it has been a good reminder to live in the moment and enjoy the present stage of life.

She said one of her motto’s is to not worry. If something is going to happen  you’ll have plenty of time to worry about it then and figure it out but it doesn’t do any good to worry about it before it even happens.

    St. George – Year 7

We think we’ve been going to St. George during Spring Break for 7 years now!  That’s before my little family even needed a spring break 🙂 Each year we stay at the same condo’s and hang out with Pete’s family, Matt’s family and Michelle’s family. It’s a great mix of family and fun in the sun. (except we missed last year for Joel’s wedding)

    160April20141

We had a super fun time. The weather was great and that made all the difference. Our kids were little fish. They swam and swam and would have swam more if we had let them 🙂

We also Ate a TON. Donuts and Mongolian. Custard and more custard. Burgers and Veyo Pie and Texas Road House…

We also found a fun park to spend the day on Saturday. It had a great play ground and a splash pad, tennis courts and wind to fly the kite. On Thursday we also went to a park and played soccer and threw the football and watched Amanda learn how to run again.

On our last day we went to the St. George Temple in the morning.

    We went to the ZOO

Our kids earned a trip to the zoo so the Monday holiday was a perfect time for us to go. We wanted to get an early start to beat the crowd but we let the kids sleep in a little after a night of games at grandma and grandpa’s house. We got there around 11am and took our time visiting each animal. Pete and Amanda’s family met up with us around noon and the kids had a blast together. The animals were mostly indoors and lazy so it wasn’t our best visit but we did get to see everything and the weather was so nice – after so many cold cooped up days it was great to be outside.

The kids LOVE the animal statues – almost more than the real animals – I guess because you can climb all over them – We took a picture or 3 or 4 at all animal statues!

Rose did whine if she didn’t get prime animal seating.

The real animals for you animal lovers out there… Monkeys are always fun. A favorite this time were the Otters. The Rhino’s were being fed so we got to see them up close. Most of the “cats” were asleep but the Cheetah was on the prowl. The Polar Bear did not perform his swimming back flips this time but he’s still cool and Giraffe’s are always fascinating:

    Christmas Eve!

On Christmas Eve we got up and wrapped a few presents and made some pies and got everyone ready for our McDonald’s lunch with the cousins! Ben had some extra days off so he didn’t go into work at all that day. We met up with everyone at McDonald’s and let the kids get all of their hyper-ness out. After McDonald’s we went home and avoided the busy streets and stores -there was definitely a Christmas Bustle this year. We gave the kids their Christmas Jammies to open. Having presents under the tree was killing them. In the Evening we had a party at Michelle and Udine’s house. Unfortunately Cali was pretty sick. I stayed home with her while everyone else went to the party. Since the party was next door I got to sneak over a few times and enjoy the food. They ate and played and chatted and then had the kids act out the nativity. They did it all on their own this year! No adult help! pretty cool. We came home tired and excited and ready for Santa to come! (so tired I forgot to get a jammy picture 🙁 )

    GINGERBREAD

Every year since before I knew him Ben has been making a gingerbread house for his nieces and nephews and now his own children to decorate! We all look forward to this tradition and one more reason to get together during the holidays. This year we did it at our house. The new house accommodated it well.

Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Netty

Now that Ben’s parents live here in Utah we have a new tradition… they invite our family over for some Christmas time just with them. We get to exchange gifts. We eat some yummy snacks and just enjoy being together and enjoy the Christmas spirit. I really have the best in-laws. They are great. The kids all get a new ornament from them each year. I love that tradition. The kids love finding all of their ornaments and hanging them on the tree each year. This year we had red velvet cookies that i loved and Rick made his toffee and we had norwegian shortbread cookies that are a Netteshiem Christmas classic. The boys got a few new games that we had to try out right then and there. Actually all gifts were opened and played with before we left. And Millie slept the entire time.

Johnson Family Party, Robertson Day, Netty Gift Exchange, Nativity with G and G Becker…

The fun just keeps on coming and so does the craziness. This time of the year is so full. We are trying to soak it all in and stay sane at the same time. I actually think we are doing a good job…

Last Friday we hosted a family party for my mom’s extended family. My Grandparents came and my Aunt and Uncle and some cousins with their kids and some of my siblings. It was a simple but fun evening. We just visited and snacked. We took a few minutes to get a family picture of Grandma and Grandpa with a bunch of their Great Grand kids and we sang a few Christmas songs. I love my family and am grateful to be so close to so many of them.

Ryan and Tara decided to sleep over that night so after the extended family left we still had a lot of gaming and fun with Ryan and Tara, Joel and Megan and Sean and Brady and Bracken. Then Michael was just getting home from his Europe trip and he came to stay the night as well. We had a ton of fun and stayed up half the night (3am) and had a blast. The next day we jumped right into gaming and snacking and the kids played great. Joel and Megan came back over Saturday afternoon and made and decorated cookies with the kids! and that evening we let Taylee babysit so the adults could go out to dinner. FUN FUN FUN

The fun continued the next day when we headed over for some Nettesheim fun. We had a family dinner and our cousin/sibling gift exchange! Being with family is so fun and easy and awesome. The night went way to fast and we enjoyed giving and receiving gifts.

Monday night we got to go visit with Grandma and Grandpa Becker and have our family home evening with them. It has become a tradition for us to take our puppets and tell the Christmas story. Gladys always gets to be Mary and Ray likes to be a Wise man. The little kids clung to me the whole time until Grandpa brought out his treats. We love this time of year!
