    Rushes 2012

2012 was a RUSHES year! Grandma Nettesheim tries to get us all together every three years and A LOT of us made it this year. We travelled on Monday (to Lincoln NE) and Tuesday arriving in Mukwonago, WI at Rick and Jen’s around 5:30pm. We spent the 4th of July with them and then went to a Brewers game on the 5th – it WAS 100+ degrees. We went to Kopps on Thursday and Friday nights and then again on Saturday morning as we left for the Rushes. We stopped at Lambeau field and Renards Cheese and the grocery store before checking in at the Rushes. We said hi to extended family and swam that night. Sunday we went to Sacrament meeting at the branch and the rest of the week was spent at the lake, on the playground, playing sports and eating Custard. We each took a night to feed the family and it worked out great. Suggestion for next year is less night meetings so we can enjoy the evenings all together. Mom and Dad went all out and got us each our own condos this year! I thought it would be lonely but it was really nice!

The average reader should stop here because this will get long.

Benji spent his time playing games with his cousins (and Packer), mostly games with secret powers and make believe. He got pulled on 2 different tubes behind the boats! He loved eating the candy bars we brought. He finally decided to join in on the baseball games and got a few decent hits. He liked the paddle boats. We felt comfortable letting him go from one condo to the other and being the oldest at the playground. He seemed to enjoy that freedom. I just asked him what his favorite part of vacation was and got this list: brewers game, treasure hunt, inside pool, outside movie, beach. The neatest thing for Benji was watching him really swim on his own. As soon as he got to the pool he asked if he could go to the deep end with the cousins. I said not until we go and test it out. Ben went with him and he killed it. Jump in, get to the side and do it again and again and again. He even managed to play sharks and minnows with everyone.

Packer had a good trip, besides peeing his pants twice on the drive home! mostly his parents fault, we don’t like to stop unless we REALLY have to and he doesn’t say the pee thing until it’s too late. Packer loved his Nature Hike with dad. He loved going to the playground whenever he wanted and checking for cousins there. He loved the sand, any sand: beach, playground or volleyball court. He was afraid of the water snakes at the beach but got over it by the end. He did the paddle board and went on the sail boat with mom. He pushed his limits in the swimming pool, learning to do jackknives and cannonballs and he can swim down and touch the bottom!

Cali loved the beach. Everyday I asked who wanted to go to the beach and she would jump with joy! We would run to the water and she would go right in repeatedly dunking herself. She is our social girl and had fun saying hi to everyone and getting their attention. She also enjoyed the freedom of going to different condos to find cousins. She spent time with Anna and Mia but she also clung to Savannah and Julia as they babied her. Cali liked all of the farm animals except the little pig that bit her. She learned to jump from the side of the pool at 3 ft and jump swim her way back to the steps. We did suffer a few tantrums due to tiredness but such is the life of this three year old.

Rose is getting to be a lot of fun and a little less work when you can understand what she wants. She watched Blues Clues on my netbook for 6-8 hours each day of travelling!! She loved it and never tired of it. She still loves her bottle and usually needs it to go in the ‘beep beep” microwave before drinking it. She threw a fit at the Farm because she wanted to drink the bottle and not feed it to the little goats. She giggled with joy while getting pulled in the cousins wagon and she loved jumping off the side of the pool over and over again. Rose ate lots of sand, fought a lot with Christian, and cried whenever mom or dad were not right at her side.

Raymond is a whole new baby after this trip. I really feel like we brought a little baby with us and came home with a big boy. He turned 5 months on our last day. He is super grabby now. He learned how to roll. Like roll all over the room and turn on his tummy and really just get all around. I can’t put him on the couch or bed anymore or he rolls right off. Naptime will have to be in his bed now. He tried his first lick of cracker! He took the pumped milk really well. He is a constant thumb sucker which makes him a pretty easy baby 🙂 He got drug around wherever we went and took naps wherever he could. He won everyone over with his big smile and alfalfa hair.

Ben was in heaven during our trip. He loves the midwest. He loves his family. He has fond memories of going to the Rushes as a kid. Put it all together at one time and he is set. He ate lots of Kopps Custard. Got to go see his Brewers play. Stopped in Green Bay (enough said). He quoted Lampoons vacation going over The Mighty Mississip and drove with the windows down soaking in the Wisconsin air whenever he could. He was surrounded by his Grandma, Parents, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and US of course! Got to go fishing with his Dad and Bros. And topped it all off with official Chocolate Milk of the Packers.

I really enjoyed the vacation. Whenever Ben is around I have a little more freedom and a lot of fun. I love the water so being at the lake is just perfect. I went to the beach every day and stayed as long as the kids would let me. I even managed a couple runs on the kneeboard. I read two books and did a puzzle. I enjoyed being with family. Nettesheim’s are great. I loved not cooking dinner for 2 weeks and the kids had lots to do so that takes the pressure off of me. I finally got over my sickness while in Waukesha so that was wonderful. I docked my cell phone and used it as little as possible. I enjoyed the smooth car rides that did not entail the breakdowns of my youth (that is a story of its own). I would drive the 4 days in the car and do it all again in a heartbeat.

    Fathers Day

    Father’s Day 2012 (I thought I posted this 3 days ago – oops)

Cali had some cute answers about dad

We all gathered around Ben’s bed on Sunday morning and wished him a happy father’s Day. We got him a few small gifts and cute cards. After church we just relaxed, the kids and I had just got home from CA and Ben from scout camp so it was nice to just be home. For dinner we were able to go to Ben’s dads house and be with him and Grandpa Becker and lots of family. Rose ate the sandbox while the rest of us ate dinner – grandpa might need to buy some refill sand after that feast.

we all chipped in for some large wind chimes!

    Ben is a GREAT dad.

Grandpa Becker played his Garbage Can for us! He told me that he bought the Garbage can Instrument for 75$. He met a guy that had a little band and the guy told him he could come over so he brought his garbage can instrument and he played in the band for years. They played at Lagoon and at Rest Homes. Lots of Polka songs. So Sunday night for fathers day we had a little polka dance before everyone had to leave! it was awesome.

I have wonderful Fathers in my life. I love all of them. I was actually able to spend time with all of them within a one week span. I spent time with my dad and left a gift before I came home from CA, we had this celebration on Sunday for Ben, Rick and Ray and then I was able to visit my maternal grandfather later in the week. The other 2 grandpa’s have already passed on. Great men make a big difference – especially for my little family. We love you all.

    Our Memorial Day

On Monday we went to the Alpine park with all of the Nettesheim’s. We brought dinner and just relaxed and played with the kids. There are 23 kids when we all get together so we filled up the playground easily.

    Rose loved this teeter totter.

Every time I'd stop she'd start signing more. I'd say she was on for at least an hour with many different cousins coming and going on the other end. And yes her hair is always crazy.

We Love Super Hero Movies. We had been waiting for this one to come out and it did not disappoint. We went for a post birthday celebration for Ben. His parents, 4 siblings and their spouses were all able to watch it with us.

    Captain America is Ben's favorite.

On Friday night we want to The Pizza Pie with Joel, Brady, Kelsey, LaNell and Dan. I had never been. I enjoyed the variety. And the company was “nice”.

cookie dough dessert pizza was yummy

On Sunday we got to have dinner with Ben’s family. His mom and both Grandma’s were there so that was neat.

On Thusday morning we loaded up and left for ST. George, UT!!

don't know how these girls weren't frozen

So we drove Thursday morning and went straight to Sand Hollow Res. to meet up with the rest of the Netty family. It was a cold windy day but we tried to have a beach day anyway. Our kids played great. I took off Rose’s pants and gave her a shovel and she was entertained the entire time. That girl LOVES sand right now, and water isn’t bad either. We had an early dinner and enjoyed being with Pete, Matt, Michelle and their families. The next day was still chilly and windy but we put on our shorts and willed it to be a park day. We ended up spending a full afternoon at a local park. The big kids explored the hill, played soccer and baseball, and flew Ben’s BIG kite. Little kids played on the playground, got cold, ate snacks, warmed up in the van, more snacks, try to explore and follow big kids. It was fun.

I think Jamie might have fouled Cody and Lily here.

Lalo vs. Uncle Pete (Ben was on the far end of the field so I didn't get any good shots)

Michelle, Matt and Pete - enjoying the view or looking for kids?

It was a good Kite Flying day.

Saturday we woke up to rain 🙁 So we tried to entertain ourselves for a few hours and then finally decided to make it a swimming day even with the rain. I took the 3 big kids swimming with all of their cousins. The pool was surprisingly warm and was really fun.

when bored - - - find a computer chair to spin in! and a Cali to push you.

Sunday morning was nice and Sunny again but we had to pack up and head home. We love our yearly trip to St. George. This year we stayed with Michelle and Udine in Grandma’s condo. We went to church, packed up and headed home. I think I will mention that Packer requested a potty stop cause he needed to pee. Ben asked if he could hold it and he said no but HE always holds it. Ben told him to go ahead and pee in his pants cause we weren’t near a bathroom. Well, you can probably guess where this is going… Packer took him seriously and peed his pants and kept on playing the PSP! Hopefully we all learned a lesson from that story :) We couldn’t go straight home when we knew there would be dinner and games waiting for us at Ryan’s place so we stopped there and ate and played and then came home and ended our spring break. THE END

    Spring Break part 1

    Dinosaur Museum

posing with the dinosaurs, sitting on a bone

Last week was our spring break and we had a lot of fun. I managed to find some energy and tried to play with the kids and do what they wanted to do. On Monday we played at home and then packed a lunch and went to the birdcage park. We met up with Michelle and her kids and then Amanda and some of her kids came later. The kids played and I visited and we got sun burns and had a good time. After the park we went hot tub swimming.

On Tuesday we went to the Dinosaur Museum at BYU. Packer had been asking to go to the dinosaur place since they learned about dinosaurs at preschool a few months ago. I am to cheap to pay for the one at Thanksgiving Point so we went to the free one at BYU which happens to be the place of my first job at college. I was the janitor for the Paleontology Museum and Lab!! I know exciting! I spent 4 hours a day with those dinoS – 5-9, 5 days a week. Anyway, we had been trying to go but with school schedules and afternoon nappers and the place closes at 5 and it’s a good 40 minute drive and anyway… Spring Break was the perfect time to go.

cute kids and dino over the shoulder

The girls were too scared to put their heads in but the boys were not.

do you see a broken finger?

I had to post this last pic for Than Hancock… this is the dino that I was dusting and broke his finger off. I quickly put it back the best I could and made the place extra clean that night. I can’t remember the rest of the details of that story and would most likely tell a lie if I tried to recount it BUT I did break the finger and Benji couldn’t believe it, and I think Than used to threaten to get me fired by telling my boss about the broken bone… again my brain doesn’t do well with details.

After the Dinosaur Museum the kids were still being wonderful so I offered to take them to another museum. We wandered through the Bean Museum and looked at all of the different animals. The kids loved just being there. I think they could have been looking at paper cut outs and still enjoyed themselves. I was simply proud that I could manage all 5 of my kids on my own with no crazy happenings. Maybe I won’t be stuck home all summer 🙂

    Posing in the Jungle

    The BEARS.

After the museum we headed to the park. We had another picnic lunch and played on the playground. I need to do these little outings more often. The kids ALL loved it and they were ALL well behaved. I declared Wednesday a day of recovery cause I was tired. We chilled at home, got in the hot tub at 8:30am, played too much computer and packed our bags for St. George.

computer time and Rose decided it was nap time

Do you see how she is doubled over? snuggling with her own foot. Random falling asleep just doesn’t happen around here. I was laughing pretty hard when I discovered her and had to snap the pictures. Inside I was wishing it was me that could just fall asleep standing up and then be gently laid in my bed to finish my nap 🙂

    Our Easter

We had a really nice Easter Sunday. I love having my in-laws so close. Ben’s parents invited us all over for dinner and an egg hunt. We spent the day at their house after church with lots of cousins and grandparents. Rose played in the sandbox 90% of the time. Benji spent his time hiding out with older cousins. And Packer and Cali both have a pack of cousins their age that they played with. Each kid got to find about 20 plastic eggs out in the yard. I loved just relaxing and watching the kids have so much fun. I am grateful for Jesus Christ, His atonement and resurrection. Once again Ben and I did our best to help the kids recognize the reason for the celebration, which mostly consisted of asking the same question several times per day, “So, why do we have Easter?”

We make these every Easter, I think Ben's mom used to make them as well. They are not good for my diet but they are delicious.
