Millie and her finger
Millie finally lost a battle. She is crazy and fun and always on the go and never stops and … on Friday October 16th she got her fingers shut in my parents front door. Instead of waiting for help she ripped her hand loose and left the tip of her finger and the fingernail in the inside of the door hinge! I yelled as I saw it happen. I tried to stop the bleeding to see how bad it was but I couldn’t stop the bleeding. When Joel and Michael brought us the tip of the finger we knew it was pretty bad so Christy and Mom and I jumped in the car with her and rushed to the Oroville ER. I wrestled her the whole way there trying to keep pressure on the finger and stop the bleeding. She screamed the whole way there trying to put her hand in her mouth to sooth the finger and figure out why it was hurting so badly. To our amazement the ER waiting room was empty so they got to us right away and bandaged her hand to stop the bleeding. We got her on some heavy Tylenol, took X-rays and then the DR examined it and re-bandaged it with some foam to stop the bleeding and told us to keep it as clean and dry as possible and see a Dr in a few days. We saved the tip but she threw it away and said they couldn’t do anything with it. Sad, huh? We feel so bad for her. But she is handling it like a champ. She has been going a mile a minute ever since we got back to Grammie and Grampa’s house.
I took her to our family Dr. in Utah when we got back on Tuesday. He said that it is healing well and he didn’t think a specialist would do anything other than let it heal so … we are letting it heal. Changing the gauze and sock on her hand daily. The Dr. said he is treating it like a burn. We need the skin to heal and replenish. He wants her to come in again on Monday to see the progress. The entire nail was ripped off but we can’t tell if the nail bed is gone or if she will be able to grow another nail on that finger. I can’t think about it too much or it makes me sick. She is being tough though and the sock over the hand really helps a ton!
