Big Rock Candy Mountain Camping!
We went camping on Thursday with some Nettesheim Fam!! We had such a fun trip. It had been a long time since we camped with this crew! We stayed at Castlerock Campground on the other side of the Fremont Indian State Park. 2hr 20min to get there. We left early to try to get 4 walkup sites and it worked!
We set up camp and figured out Boy tent and Girl tent and how to sleep on gravel! Then we went exploring on the backside of camp!
The girls had mini girls camp and got their hair done by the older cousins:
It was so hot we didn’t really need a fire! (opposite of our last campout) We ate delicious foil dinners and P&A got there late in the evening. Everyone did some Star Gazing and Smore’s and then off to bed!
This Tent Buddy was so HAPPY – that smile and glimmer in his eye makes the work of camping worth it!
Friday – Good Morning! The sun came up and roasted us out of our tents. We had some yummy breakfast and tried to stay in the shade. The kids hiked and explored camp. Some of us played a full game of 5 Crowns. Christian pocket knifed his finger and had to go get stitches 🙁
Around 3:00 we headed over to “Candy Mountain” which was really nothing to see… we tried to find something to do or see until it was time for our 5:00 river Tubing! We stopped at the Mountain, couldn’t find the lemonade spring, drove to Marysvale, then to Hoovers for some Ice cream!
The River Float was AWESOME! The water was warm and the current was perfectly slow and we just had a blast. All 27 of us were laughing and smiling.

It took about an hour to go down the river. You could touch in some spots but not all. There weren’t any big rapids but it was a steady flow. The kids were linking up and standing up. At one point we all joined in a circle around the raft. The only scary parts were the ropes to get out = Rose got stuck on the first one and tubes pushing up against her so she couldn’t breathe and on the last rope Tiago was out of his tube swimming and got stuck at the rope for a minute. And in one part lots of people were banging their knees on the rocks! 12$ each. So fun. Something we will definitely do again.
We headed back to camp for a late dinner and then Jamie convinced us to drive over to the state park and check out the petroglyphs!
Campfire, Stories, Treats and bed!
Saturday was already clean up and go home… We all slept until 8am and then french toast for breakfast and taking down camp!
We decided to stop at Bullies for shakes on the way home and then headed to the Mona Rope Swing. The rope swing was PACKED and we were tired so we decided to head home and unpack and clean up and go swimming in our 80 degree pool!
We had a GREAT CAMPING TRIP! Excited to do it again soon!
