10 year Anniversary
Ben and I got married 10 years ago on August 2nd! We were able to get away for a few days this past week which is not easy when you have 5 young kids. Ben planned out our 3 day excursion and I just went along for the ride. It was fun. We packed a lot of stuff in Wednesday through Friday and came home Saturday morning.
DAY 1 – wednesday
We got the girls dropped off at Jamie’s and the boys off to Michelle’s and started our adventure Wednesday late morning. We drove north to Park City and Ben told me that the plan was to remember and revisit some of our 10 years together. We did a lot of reminiscing on the drive and throughout the week. We started at the Park City Outlets – one of my favorite places to shop. From there we went to the Loco Lizard Cantina for lunch, we went for our 3rd anniversary and hadn’t been back. We LOVE the chips and salsa. SO GOOD. I knew I would regret it but I just kept eating and eating. We did a little more shopping and then we made our way to Midway where we checked in at the Johnson Mill Bed and Breakfast. We have only been to one B&B and it was our Honeymoon and it was in Oroville and a lot of you know the story but it is a treasured memory and we hadn’t dared go back to a B&B until now. This one was great. We were right on a little pond and took a canoe ride and relaxed. That evening we went out and rode the Heber Creeper. It was a slow train ride around the back of Deer Creek. It was a wizard theme and we got sorted by the sorting hat and ate gross jelly beans and had birthday cake for Harry Potter. It was a fun ride and we really enjoyed the scenery more than anything. After that we weren’t quite ready to call it a night so we I made Ben take me to the local Fair Grounds and dream about riding the Gravitron or even the Ferris Wheel that someone refuses to go on!
DAY 2 – thursday
The breakfast at the Johnson Mill was really good and we enjoyed being out by the pond. I had a mini cry over breakfast as we talked about the past and our future. That morning I went and got a pedicure just because I could – I mean – I was free, I didn’t need to schedule a babysitter or anything! We left Heber/Midway and ended up at Sundance. We took the ski lift up the mountain and from there we hiked over to Stewart Falls! We did the Stewart Falls Hike as our first date after my mission! Ben made sure we could take the tram so I wouldn’t have to do hardly any uphill hiking 🙂 We came down from the Falls just in time to check in to our room at Sundance! and get my 4:00 nap in! That night we had a BBQ dinner at Sundance and then watched “Annie Get Your Gun” at their outdoor theater. Gotta Love a Good Musical!
DAY 3 – Friday
Friday morning we slept in a little and then checked out and headed down the Provo canyon. I really wanted to go river rafting on the Provo River but I called the place that you rent from and they said they wouldn’t rent to a super prego woman. So, we went to Orem and shopped for a few items that we needed and then went to watch “Man of Steel” at 12:40. A strange time to be at the theater – but we enjoyed the show. After that we drove to down town Salt Lake and went to an early dinner at Cafe Molise. And then off to check in at our hotel. I tried to get my nap in but we didn’t have time :). We jumped back in the car and ended up at the Usana Amphitheatre. There were people everywhere as we made our way into the parking lot and then the venue. I eventually saw a Brad Paisley truck and got super excited. He is my favorite hands down. The concert was great – perfect way to end our adventure. We know all of his songs, he is a good entertainer AND to seal the deal he ended up coming down the aisle and right by us where they had a little stage for him to perform. I ‘almost’ touched Brad!
It was fun to spend so much time with Ben. We kept joking at how often I kept yawning – he really isn’t a  boring date! BUT I am 35 weeks pregnant with my 6th and this body IS tired 🙂 We laughed at how prego I looked in some of our pictures. We also thought about all the things we maybe could have/would have done if I wasn’t great with child BUT that has been a good part of our last 10 years 🙂 I am still impressed with how much we did and what a good plan Ben came up with to compensate my inability  to do anything ‘fun’ (river raft, zip line, ride anything, bike, hike, eat normal, not need a nap,…)
Friday Night we stayed at the Hilton Home 2 somewhere near Salt Lake. Ben had ordered flowers, sparkling Cider and chocolates as part of the deal so when we came back from the concert we could have an official anniversary celebration… unfortunately the Hotel fell through and did not deliver. Fortunately we ended the adventure with a free hotel stay! We checked out that morning and came home to see the kids and my parents and Kelsey and Brady who had come to town for Benji’s baptism! Â … that craziness continues in my next post.
I love Ben and had so much fun on our get away. It was fun and relaxing. He is perfect for me.
